Flight Review: TG636 – BKK – TPE (Business Class)

I am sitting in Business Class seat 15B, an aisle seat in this 2-2-2 configuration Thai Airways Boeing 777-200 flight bound for Taipei. As soon as I board a flight attendant offered me 1A but I declined as I am sitting with my partner.

The seats are slightly old school, and noticeably there are no noise-cancelling Headphones (strange for business class). Luckily I have brought my own so I use them.

Pre-take-off drinks are offered and I choose a glass of Verve Champagne. Shortly after take-off more drinks, this time with warm mixed nuts, and for me, a glass of French Medoc is well received.

I have pre-ordered a salmon dish from the business class special menu and it is quite nice (although a little on the dry side), served with black squid ink pasta, a prawn and soba noodle entree, garlic bread, and a delicious mango and sticky rice dessert.

I watch ‘Red June’ starring Judy Dench on the slightly smaller than average AV screen, and then recline my seat into an almost fully-flat position for a solid one-hour nap.

Due to heavy congestion and rain at TPE, we are told that air traffic control has ordered us to stay in a holding pattern before landing.

We subsequently land 30 minutes behind scheduled arrival time.
