Amidst the chaos and near death experience of a flight cancellation, airline – provided hotel, and new departure time 9 hours later, I finally board my flight to Bangkok from Nairobi.

I am sitting in seat 1J on this Kenya Airways Dreamliner 787-8 – the first row of Business Class. Immediately upon boarding I am offered a tamarind juice and hot wet towel.

Soon after takeoff, breakfast comes around and it is delicious – a full English breakfast with cereal and fruit.

As I am exhausted from the cancellation ordeal and mob attack at the airline counter, I press the magic button that turns my seat into a fully flat bed where I sleep for the next 4 hours or so before waking up for dinner. I choose the seafood option and it is delicious.

My hand is still in a cast so a kind flight attendant offers to fill out my immigration forms. In fact this is not an isolated experience. The service throughout the nearly 9 hour flight is warm and attentive.

I have no idea if we have landed on time.
