I am sitting in seat 12C on this Boeing 777-300 Thai Airways flight bound for Singapore. I have purchased the ticket using Avianca Miles (a Star Alliance member) from BKK – DPS via SIN. It may seem like a long way to get there but the points redemption from Avianca was less than redeeming on Thai. Go figure. My next leg will be on SQ – review to follow. And I get 2 Business class flights on 2 separate airlines for the mileage of one!
A soon as I sit at my allocated seat, a friendly flight attendant welcomes me on board with a hot towel and a welcome drink (I choose the Canard Duchene Leonie Brut Rose Champagne). He also confirms my pre-ordered ‘Salmon Tarragon with Black squid ink pasta’ meal (TG’s version of SQ’s ‘Book the Cook’).
Soon after take-off pre-lunch drinks are ordered and I go for the Medoc 2014 which comes with a packet of roasted, lightly salted Cashews. This is followed by the meal – all of which arrives on a single tray. It’s quite good, and I finish with a double espresso with a dash of steamed milk.
Whilst I eat my meal I watch an episode of ‘Modern Family’ season 8, and then finish that Korean drama on my iPad. With 45 mins of the short just under 2-hour flight left, I recline my seat to the maximum ‘angle-lie flat’ position for a short nap.
Although the actual product is old and tired, service is above average for TG and we land on time.
