Ever wondered what 40,000 QFF points can buy you? An upgrade on a Saver Economy fare to Business Class (if the timings right). And it was right for me. 24 hours after requesting the upgrade it was approved. The A330-300 is fitted with the new Skybes version II Business Class seats designed by Marc Newson, and they are very comfortable indeed. Seat 2E is mine, in a 1-2-1 configuration.
Around 30 minutes after take-off the hot towel and drinks service comes around. Having just been to the Hunter the previous weekend it was a no brainer to choose the 2014 Barossa Valley Shiraz – it was a great year.
This is followed by lunch. I have pre-ordered a mezze plate on Q-eat which is delicious! The Hummus and Tabuleh Salad are restaurant quality as is the spinach and cheese triangle that accompanies it. I also have a second glass of that Shiraz.
My Jiangxi style ling with Shanghai wheat noodles and Chinese greens, although not presented amazingly, is scrumptious and goes well with a glass of Sav Blanc from the Adelaide Hills. OK – that’s enough alcohol for now. Dessert is next, and from the selection I choose the Vanilla cheesecake with lemon jelly and blueberries, enjoyed with a desert wine chosen by the Qantas Rockpool Sommeliers.
During my food journey I watch ‘Barracuda’ an Australian drama highlighting competitive Australian swimming. I get through 4 episodes before I take a few hours of rest reclining in a fully flat bed.
A couple of hours before landing, a pre-arrival snack is brought around. I go for the spinach, ricotta, and onion pastizzi with tomato relish. I finish it with a double Baileys on ice.
The flight attendants on board are extremely attentive – especially Mark, the cabin service manager.
Good one #qantas
