I have been dreading this midnight flight for a week – nothing worse than sitting in an economy seat on a red-eye flight.
But…..
I am sitting in a full empty row, #67D,E,F & G – the middle section, on this China Airlines Boeing 777-300ER flight from Taipei bound for Sydney.
I arrive at the airport 45 minutes before boarding and quickly ask the CI counter staff before going through immigration if there are any empty rows available and there is! Very lucky 🍀.

As soon as I get to my seat I prepare for a full flight of sleep – by spreading my stuff over the 4 seats so that no one else can swap their seat 💺. And as soon as the seatbelt sign is off about 5 mins after take-off, I stretch out over the 4 seats and attempt to sleep for around 6 hours. I manage to nod off now and again – it’s not the most comfortable bed but it beats a single seat any day.
I get up for breakfast around 2 hours before landing, and watch Moana on my entertainment screen. The breakfast is nothing special and I have a little run in with the flight attendant who doesn’t speak to me when she serves my meal and looks angry. I ask her, “Are you angry at me?” – to which she responds “no.” 😅.

Even though I have a “fully-flat” bed on this trip, the Cabin is freezing and overall it’s still uncomfortable.
I hate night flights in the economy class cabin. Period.
