I am sitting in First class window seat 1F, on this American Airlines Boeing 737 bound for Chicago from Orlando. The seat is large and modern but lacks an entertainment screen. There is streaming entertainment and free WiFi for AA members, but no screens.

Prior to takeoff we are offered a choice of beverages, and I take a Diet Coke. There’s a short delay due to lightening so the flight attendant comes around again and confirms my pre-ordered meal – short-ribs and Mac ‘n cheese, and a drink – Ginger Ale.

And we’re off.

A few minutes after take-off on this short 2.5 hour flight, a hot wet towel is handed out to First passengers. Warm nuts and my drink follows. Then the meal. It’s delicious/ and comes with a mushroom entree and delectable carrot cake for dessert.

From dinner and until the end of the short flight, I watch a movie streamed to my iPad. As an AA member, WiFi is also free and strong.

I have always had an impression that American Airlines – Delta, AA, and United are crap – but so far I have been proved wrong.
