We have booked this simple 3* hotel in the picturesque city of Chiayi (about 2 hours south of Taipei by High Speed Rail) on Agoda.com.

Our twin-bedded room (no doubles were available) has basic amenities, but an oversized shower which is nice. There is also a good-sized TV with over 100 channels to choose from.

The only problem with the room is there is no heating, a bit of an issue when it is borderline freezing outside. After contacting reception, the best they can do is provide an additional doona cover for the bed.

Breakfast is included in the room rate and again, it is a simple Taiwanese-style selection in a self-service buffet format.

I doubt we will be back.
