This is my 3rd stay at this hotel in the trendy district of Zhonshan, Taipei. I have requested prior to check-in an upgrade to a One-Bedroom Corner Suite, which I am granted, but only a Twin room as all others are booked. Not a problem, it’s the space I am after.

And it is a pretty good deal – I have used ony 127,000 points for 5 nights using HHonors ‘use points for 4 and get 1 free night’ special offered to all members.

At check-in I receive a DoubleTree Cookie, which I quickly devour as I am hungry (and it is delicious). I also am handed a Diamond gift of two glasses with cookies inside, and a welcome letter from the GM. The room is not ready yet, being only 8.30am, but I get a call a few hours later when it is.

The room lounge room and bedroom are spacious, with a beautiful view of the bustling street below. The bathroom has floor to ceiling windows so you need to use the automatic curtain button to close them before you take a shower or bath.

As I have booked 5 nights, I receive 12 drink vouchers to exchange for alcoholic or soft drinks in the Alley restaurant on the 2nd floor, where our complimentary Diamond breakfast is also served.

The highlight of the stay is the staff – quite exceptional in everyway. Always welcoming me when I enter of leave the lobby, smiling, and helpful.
