Hotel Review: Taj Lake Palace, Udaipur

Hard to describe this hotel which was once a Palace of a former King. It is an island, painted in a striking white, and accessible only by boat.

The stay actually begins at the airport with a pickup from the hotel. 45 minutes later we arrive at the port to take a 5 min boat ride to the hotel. We are constantly welcomed and greeted and this is emphasised even further as we arrive at the hotel, where seemingly out of nowhere rose petals drop from the sky like rain welcoming us. ‘Welcome to your palace’ is said to us by one of the many guest service members.

Upon check-in we are told we have been upgraded to a Palace Suite which is a beautiful corner room on the second (top) floor. It is beautifully decked out as can be seen from the photos above.

The Palace itself is small but has stunning views from every direction, a small pool and 2 Jacuzzis, steam room, spa area, and 2 restaurants. It is also where the 1983 Bond movie, ‘Octuapussy’ was filmed.

Our ‘Monsoon Package’ includes daily breakfast for 2 (except for the last morning), and 1 dinner in the Indian restaurant where we have a Thali set each. It is delicious. We are also given an Historical tour of the hotel ending with a glass of Chandon sparkling and a 1 hour sunset boat cruise included.

Service at all touchpoints of the Palace is excellent, and my partner and I are always greeted by name.

A great stay.
