More of a hostel rather than a hotel, Hutton Lodge is a quaint lodging in a heritage building right on the cusp of the Penang UNESCO world heritage precinct.
The rooms are made up of a mixture of dorms with shared bathroom facilities to “Double Deluxe with En suite” rooms – which is what I book for a mere SG$65 for two nights including breakfast.
The room itself is very basic but then again for the price I have paid what do I expect? It has everything I need – a comfortable double bed, aircon, and a private bathroom/shower. No TV or any other amenities, but as it is a pseudo-hostel, everything can be found adjacent to the lobby.
Breakfast each morning is very simple – 2 pieces of toast, a piece of cake, and coffee/tea. My advice is to go across the room and grab a roti prata or similar traditional breakfast from a street vendor for about $2.
The best thing about staying here is the service – so friendly and helpful. Warm smiles all around. And you really can’t beat the location. The hop-on-hop off bus is a 2 min walk away, and I found a great cooking school at the end of the street.
Highly recommended!
