This is my first Business Class flight in quite a while and my expectations are high having it on Singapore Airlines. Although not exceeded, they are met.
After spending some time in the lounge, I make my way to the gate, wait a few minutes, and am the first to board. This Boeing 777-300A aircraft has 3 classes and soon find my way to my oversized 19F aisle Business class seat. I am not sure how recently ‘refitted’ the aircraft is despite the SQ website saying so as after some investigation realise there is no USB charger in the seat. Minor detail but worth pointing out.
Within a few minutes I am offered a welcome drink and I go for a signature cocktail which I think is a Bolly and OJ. Next come the warm wet towels and we are off.
I have pre-ordered a ‘Book the Chef’ meal – a kind of Coq au Vin, but realise my mistake when I see the extensive lunch menu which includes a Japanese Bento which I would have preferred. I ask the friendly flight attendant if it is possible to change and she tells me doubtful as it is popular, limited, and I am the only non-Japanese in the Business class cabin. I don’t feel like chicken so she suggests the Duck from the Western Menu which I choose and am told she will keep the chicken in the warmer should I want to eat it towards the end of the flight, which incidentally I do. Although the meals are filling, I have had better. I am probably just grumpy as I didn’t get the Japanese option, and therefore couldn’t, ‘….embark on a culinary journey that takes you through the changing flavours of the seasons….’, which the menu temptingly describes 😦
I do enjoy a number of different alcohol options including a hot Premium Ginjo Tamanohikari sake, and a glass of 2010 Chateau Loudenne Medoc Cru Bourgeois from Bordeaux.
I don’t watch any movies but instead try to sleep for a few hours on the converted bed which has a ‘…gentle 8 degree recline’ – aka not fully-flat.
I guess for 30,000 Krisflyer miles, it is a good deal (this is a Saver reward as opposed to the higher mileage requirement of Standard and Flexi Business class upgrade).
Nonetheless I arrive refreshed, full, slightly headachy, and surprisingly, ready for bed!
