Hotel Review: Hilton Opera Hanoi

This is my second stay at this hotel, about one year to the day.

I arrive late at about 10pm having flown up from Saigon. Upon entering the lobby and making my way to check in, I hand over my passport and am told as a Diamond member I have been upgraded to an Executive floor. I ask if it is a suite like last time and am told no. ‘Oh!’, I think to myself and gently inquire as to why this time I didn’t get a suite. Apparently the hotel was overbooked last time. During the explanation the assistant FO manager comes to welcome me. I am told they value my patronage as a Diamond member and as a gesture of goodwill would be more than happy to accommodate me in a suite on the 6th floor. I LOVE HILTON! 🙂

The room, although ever so slightly outdated, is large; actually 2 rooms, 2 toilets. The porter brings in the VIP fruit platter and welcome letter from the hotel manager. A nice touch.

Over the next couple of days I take advantage of the pool and sauna, but steer away from the fitness centre, enjoy breakfast in the makeshift Executive lounge on the 3rd floor (due to renovations on the 7th floor); also try the main restaurant for breakfast – nice; and my cocktail and canapĂ© ritual each evening in the lounge.

The hotel itself is about a 10 – 15 min walk from the hustle and bustle of the tourist trap, so there is no noise in the evenings guaranteeing a dream-filled sleep!

As an added bonus the staff are exceptionally friendly, a point which can really make or break an experience at a hotel.
