Upon check-in at Changi Airport I ask the BA person of the possibility from Premium Economy to Club World (Business Class). I am told there is availability but on my fare basis the cost would be $SIN 1100 per passenger. I decline and ask since my partner and I are both Fold QF FF and Safire OneWorld members can they do a better rate. A few phone calls later, and we grab 2 Business Class seats at $550 each (a 50% discount from original quote, and about 75% off what we would have had to have paid online).

Ecstatic at the outcome, we pay and make our way to the BA Lounge; take a quick look around and go to the familiar Qantas Singapore Lounge instead (see separate review).

Super excited in boarding this 747 refitted aircraft. Partner and I are sitting in 63 C and D respectively, in a configuration that has one seat facing forward and the other backwards.

Upon being ushered to our seats we are offered a drink; we choose Champagne, and then the hot towels, menus, amenity packs and fast track immigration cards are handed out. Although I have heard repetitively to the contrary, the flight attendants are extremely friendly and attentive.

Dinner for me is an entree of Portobello Mushroom carpaccio, followed by grilled fillet steak, and finished off with a tiramisu and double Baileys. All quite delicious.

The seats are a true ‘fully flat’ bed and that makes for a wonderful 8 hour sleep on this 13 hour flight.

Before bed, and during dinner, I watch, ‘Saving Mr. Banks’. OK. The movie choices are OK. But being tired and quite late I drift off to sleep straight after dinner, wearing the Qantas PJs I bought as none for Club World on BA (only in 1st class).

Quite a few hours later I wake up refreshed – thanks to a fully-flat bed – which is a first for me on a plane. I don’t think I can go back to Economy again…..

About 2 hours before we land, breakfast is served after a hot wet towel is passed out. I start with Bircher Muesli and warm pastries, and then opt for the full English breakfast.

Rating: 9/10 (just the food and AV menu I feel could have been a touch better).
