I am sitting in seat 33H, an aisle seat, on this China Southern Airlines Airbus A321 bound for Shenzhen, China. The 2 seats next to me are empty.

I am immediately struck by the cleanliness of this new cabin and spacious legroom available between rows. There are only 4 seats in a separate business class cabin and I think I may be in the premium economy product as it is also a cordoned-off cabin with a built-in AV monitor into the seat in front. I have no loyalty with Skyteam but because I asked for a seat up front (with a smile) at check-in, it may have worked.

There is ambient Chinese flute music being gently piped over the loudspeakers and the flight attendants are warm and friendly. Remarkably we board basically on time which I had thought was near impossible with Chinese carriers. And I note we take off 5 minutes before scheduled departure.

About 5 mins into take off, I stretch out over the 3 seats and pillows and fall into a deep sleep for about 45 mins. Then my pre-order Hindu meal is brought over. It is delicious and huge. The flight attendant goes through every drink available and I ask for a Diet coke or Coke Zero and a glass of read wine. She ends up bringing me a normal coke and a white wine. Too funny but she is very sweet.
I play around with the AV system but there is nothing I am interested in watching so go back to sleep for the remaining hour or so.
An above average flight. Only 2 things that could have improved – 1 – cleaner toilets and 2 – immigration forms.
