Hotel Review: La Festa, a Curio Hotel by Hilton, Phu Quoc

It’s been an interesting stay here with two different hotel rooms over the three night stay. Our first hotel room was already upgraded to a deluxe king room with balcony, which was nice, a bit small at only 30 m², but there was terrible construction noise outside from the hotel building a new pool and other renovations around this new property. So after gently complaining to the reception, we were quadruple upgraded to their best room, which is the ‘Amalfi Suite. This room has a separate lounge room, and an extensive bathroom with a standalone bathtub. There is a second guest bathroom as well. It also has a balcony and nice views over the pool and ocean. The Duty manager who arranged the new room also gives us a large fruit platter and a card to apologize for the inconvenience we ‘suffered’ with the noise. Nonetheless, the renovations and noise weren’t mentioned at the time of booking so therefore we felt we were being sold an incorrect image of the hotel, especially as it was for a very special occasion, our 19th anniversary together.

The hotel is part of the La Festa complex, which is a new development being made by some conglomerate. Currently the surrounding area of the hotel looks a little bit like a ghost town as there are literally hundreds of buildings that are currently vacant waiting to be occupied. In fact the overall look of this part of the island is a bit like Disneyland or a film studio lot.

As Hilton honors Diamonds, we are given Canapés and cocktails every evening, which are actually quite amazing. Members are able to choose two drinks each from quite an extensive menu of mocktails, cocktails, wines, beer and juices and each member also receives a small canapé plate which is delicious on each of the three nights we attend. Breakfast is also included and I’d have to say it’s one of the best breakfast buffets I’ve had at any Hilton property throughout Asia Pacific.

Delicious canapés

The resort also has swimming pool, which we don’t use, a gym, which is quite good and I use that over the four days, and a steam room and dry sauna which we use each day as well.

I think this is the best hotel in this particular part of the island and if we were to come back, we’d probably stay here again.
